Listening to the hottest bands while enjoying an even spicier Indian curry? Receiving a much-needed brain massage after still not understanding the plot to that great movie you just saw? Having your hairy fashion statement trimmed while knowing you’re about to dance the night away?
This, and a lot more, is A Campingflight To Lowlands Paradise 2010: a three-day, progressive outdoor festival that focuses on alternative music, but offers much more than just that, with a complete programme of stand-up comedy, film, visual arts, literature and (street) theatre. For three days in August, a city rises in the middle of Holland: a township with 55,000 inhabitants, several hundred performances, many bars and global restaurants, a market, hippie hangouts, campsites with showers, radio broadcast, a daily newspaper, and a unique currency. It’s all there, divided over three areas and eight stages. In short: Glasto meets Goa!
Heal the World, Shake the Pllanet!
Going green has been a priority for years. It is no wonder Lowlands already was rewarded with Yourope’s Green n Clean Award.
Just to mention a few examples on how Lowlands reduces its waste:
Lowlands’ merchandising and F&B are already for the most part ecological e/o fair-trade. All waste is sorted, shuttle busses have fumagine filters, toilets are being flushed with water from the surrounding ponds. In 2009 Lowlands launched a hydrogen aggregate. With this revolutionary powerhouse energy is created by a combination of hydrogen and oxygen. No diesel or gas is needed, therefore: no detrimental emissions or extensive noise!
Another revolutionary initiative are the Green Ghetto’s. Campsite 1 and Campsite 7 are Green Ghetto’s! People who choose to set up tent here, take on the responsibility of a clean campsite. The inhabitants of these campsites are obliged to clean up their mess everyday. OXFAM NOVIB’s own Trash Bashers will be there to help surviving in the green ghetto’s.
The three topics on which Lowlands has its focus are: Transport, Energy and Waste.
The Lowlands Festival has put together an extensive report on their corporate policy regarding the environment. (For now only in Dutch available.)
